The right to know the truth

September 6th, 2007

The information about biological origin of children, conceived by artificial fertilization, will be specified in birth-certificates.
At least there is an idea of influential group from ministers and members of parliament who have recently offered revolutionary amendments to the laws regulating artificial fertilization.
This step is called to expand rights of children to know the truth about their biological origin.
These proposals were introduced by the British parliament commission from representatives of the both chambers.
According to the current legislation parents are not obliged to inform children that they are given birth from donor ovules or sperms. The commission has come to a conclusion: though the law which would oblige parents to act this way cannot be put into practice, it is necessary to make so that children could find this information - in their birth certificates.
“If parents want to deceive children, this is their choice, but we believe that the state should not be the accomplice of such deceit”, - declared the head of the Commission Phil Willis. Having learned about the biological origin, children will get adequate access to donors databases and can learn about their genetic parents, has added Willis.
