October 3rd, 2007

Modern teenagers’ mode of life causes serious anxiety. Growing up generation takes from an information society all the most perfect and advanced, thus sacrificing the health without any regret.

The British doctors from the medical organization «The Council of sleep» have questioned one thousand boys and girls in the age of from 12 till 16 years. The results appeared, to put it mildly, unfavorable. Almost a quarter of teenagers fall asleep with the switched on TV, audio-system or others electronic gadgets, being unable to leave favorite toys. The bedroom of almost any teenager is stuffed with the equipment and more likely reminds the multimedia center.

Getting acquaint with the received data, the British doctors have clutched their heads. They even have introduced the special term, «junk sleep». This word-combination illustrates well that fact, that modern teenagers think of sleep cavalierly, considering it as an annoying waste of time which needs to be avoided whenever possible.

Mobile phones also negatively influence sleep. According to researches of the Belgian scientists, many teenagers leave cell phones turned on for the night and wake up because of incoming SMS. Strangely enough, but turning off of a phone does not change a picture. About 3 percent of teenagers wake up all the same 1-3 times every night. In opinion of experts, children and teenagers, who constantly use mobiles phones, can feel memory impairment and headaches.
