Two important moments in child’s upbringing

November 14th, 2007

Wrong eating develops bad habits for all life
Problems with eating appear, as a rule, as a result of a wrong eating at a very young age. If you offer your child same food day by day, his or her tastes will not develop, and it the child will refuse any new food. Tastes of the child as well as other feelings are formed almost completely between one year and three. Parents should not give only useful food. Your child will not tell to you: “It is tasty!” Or “it is cooked perfectly!â€? Nevertheless, it is very important, that the child was pleased with the meal and that the meal was various as possible. Big attention should be given to different spices, so that the child has learned many flavoring sensations.

The daily routine develops time sense
Approximately to two and a half years, when the child already speaks, he or she starts to understand such notions as “before”, “after”, “yesterday” and “tomorrow”. In other words, while the child does not start to understand speech and to speak, he does not have time sense.

Daily routine is important not only to instill good manners in a child, but also to develop time sense. Some mothers teach kids to learn time by watch before children learn to count. The child does not understand value of hands; therefore it is useless to show him clock-hands and say: “Eight o’clock, it is time to go to bed”. The child goes to bed not because it is eight o’clock, but because it is dark, and because he or she wants to sleep. The regular daily routine allows developing abstract time sense. This schedule replaces clock to the child.

Vacation: Let children have a rest

November 13th, 2007

Kids should sleep 10 hours the least

Day regimen should not vary strongly regardless of that fact, goes the child to school or not. If he or she wants to sleep – let it be so. Sleep deficit should be filled: especially when the matter concerns senior pupils. The child will have enough of sleep for day or two, and then should return to a usual regimen. Remember, that kids should sleep not less than 10 hours a day, the senior schoolchildren - not less than 8 hours.

If the weather and a free time allow, go to a park. It is desirable to go in for any active games. Activity should be alternated. For example, go to theatre, and the next day to any exhibition. But do not be over-diligent! It is very useful sometimes to stay at home and read any interesting book.

Try to walk more
Kids should spend outdoors 3 - 3,5 hours a day, senior pupils – up to 2 hours.

Let your kids have a rest. They have passed the complex period of school adaptation. Both younger schoolchildren and senior pupils get tired of lessons. Therefore let the child to forget about study during vacation and use a free time for the hobbies.

Breast feeding raises IQ of the baby

November 12th, 2007

Scientists from the London Institute of Psychiatry informed results of the research about influence of breast feeding on development of children: breast feeding raises IQ (by seven points).

During the research scientists used the data of breast feeding influence on development of about 3 thousand children in the Great Britain and New Zealand. It appeared, that not all newborns have increased IQ level, but only those babies who had FADS2 gene type, which associates with intellectual development.

Experts from British National Academy of Sciences believe, that revealed in one group of children gene helps to split contained in food fat acids, which influence development of a brain.

Also during the research scientists didn’t manage to determine precisely readiness for breast feeding at mothers from different social groups, though there was an assumption that women with higher education are more inclined to nurse kids.

Education: Learning by heart trains memory

November 9th, 2007

Verses for learning should bring up noble feelings in the child, they should be beautiful, refined and deserving to be remembered all the life. And at the same time the child should like them.

The purpose of such lessons is not simply to learn by heart, but also to develop aesthetic feeling of the child, his or her mental faculties and creative potentialities.

The brain of a child can keep in memory from 100 up to 200 short poems. The more intensively memory is used, the better it functions and develops.

But everything should be done in a proper time: child’s retention should be trained, while he or she finds a pleasure in repetition.

Gymnastics for pregnant women: benefit or harm?

November 8th, 2007

As it appeared, future mums intensively going in for sports more than seven hours a week at earlier stages of pregnancy (till 18 weeks) run 3,5 times higher risk of miscarriage, than women who did not go in for sports at all.

To tell the truth, at later stages (after 18 weeks) miscarriage for this reason, according to doctors, is practically excluded.

Future mums must not be engaged in any occupations which are accompanied by shaking of a body, vibration, weight-lifting, risk of falling or blows. These include mountain climbing, equestrian sport, diving, all kinds of wrestling, team sports, mountain skiing.

What to do … Or Punishment as a crime (Part 2)

November 7th, 2007

So to beat or not beat? Civilized Europe has made the following decision - not to beat! For example, in Sweden, if the police notice a bruise, bump, abrasion on a body of the child, if it is proved to be parents’ handwork, daddy and mummy will go straight to prison. The same can be told about France, Italy, England, etc.

Europe denies corporal punishments. But this denying also contains latent danger. Who can guarantee that not punishing the child physically, parents won’t start “to beat” the child morally?

And maybe, more terrible isn’t the form of punishment, but that the parents do not know enough to stop punishing the progeny?

«Be friends with your children and then everything will be Ok », - exclaim Americans.

In 80s years «School and a life» magazine published the letter of one mum who confessed: every time, when her son committed an offence, it was she, who was punished, for example, the husband deprived her of sweets, did not allow watching favorite films, etc. Son pitied mum, and the boy began to study well, learned to live in harmony with his family.

So, how the child should be brought up? If you have exact recipes, may be you are self-sufficient?

What to do … Or Punishment as a crime (Part 1)

November 6th, 2007

«… Council of Europe has begun large-scale campaign aimed at prohibition of corporal punishments of children in member-countries. Council of Europe considers as such slap in the face, box on the ears, slaps, etc. The Deputy Secretary General of Council of Europe Mod de Burburikkio, supervising questions of protection of children, has emphasized that such punishments break human dignity of the child. For today only 16 countries-members of Council have taken restrictive measures in the field of children punishment (both at school, and at home). The leader by the amount of legislative amendments connected to children’s defense is Sweden… »

Do you rightly punish children for their offences? How exactly do you punish the child? Do you allow such punishment, as beating and slaps in the face? How these punishments will be reflected in character and state of mind of your son or daughter?

Becoming a dialogue with own conscience and senses, parents keep on asking a question (good, if they do it) “to beat or to not beat” (the matter doesn’t concern violence, but educational measure) a prankish child? The answer to this question is still opened. Today even more often you can hear statements like these: «Beating, as a method of education, should pass into nothingness, as it generates aggression in child’s soul», «Beating is not necessary, all questions can be solved in a civilized way».
It is curious, that some physicians assert that in no circumstances parents should whip children (mainly boys) before pubescence, because susceptibility to homosexuality is born in the process of whipping (from arising feelings).

Cesarean section provokes development of asthma

November 5th, 2007

The group of scientists from the Royal Children’s Hospital in Belfast has declared that the kids, born in the way of cesarean section, much more often fall ill with asthma, than children who were born in the natural way.

Results of the researches show, a birth of the child by cesarean section raises risk of asthma development about 20 %.

It is explained by child’s contacts to bacteria in mother’s maternal passages, and subsequent training of the immune system.

And the child who was born by cesarean section, run the risk of immune system sensitizing to influence of harmless irritants, such, as pollen or house dust.

Principles of upbringing: Interest of the child requires reinforcement

November 1st, 2007

Curiosity of the child is an important condition of world learning and is necessary for his or her intellectual and mental development.

But it is not recommended to give the child full freedom. It is equally dangerous for the child to become isolated in one subject (an extreme form of this condition is known as autism) and try to do too much at once because of inability to concentrate on something for long. In result he can grow the superficial person.

Among many interesting things in the world around, the child finds occupations, where nobody is needed for him. But usually a child needs some help of the adult. Development of child’s interest frequently depends on the reaction of an adult. Therefore it is very important not to miss it. We do not know, which interests of the child can develop in abilities, but anyway, the child should have chance to develop them.
